As an international school based in Japan, we feel it is important that children have the opportunity to explore and learn about the culture and language of Japan.
Young children with non-Japanese parents who attend international schools may be missing out on learning about Japan and its culture and language in their schools international, English-based environment. Those that attend Japanese kindergartens may be struggling to understand their teachers and classmates without extra help and support.
Japanese parents of children who are currently attending international schools may be interested in exposing their children to a Japanese classroom environment. Children who will be attending a Japanese elementary school especially may need extra Japanese language and cultural support along with an introduction to the customs of a typical Japanese school classroom that might be different from their international school environment.
To help address these needs, we at Nishinomiya International School created our Daruma Class. Class is held every Wednesday from 15:30 to 17:30 and is available for children ages 4 and up. Teachers and curriculum developers for the class are certified and licensed Japanese preschool teachers who are fully bilingual in English and Japanese and are experienced in both Japanese and international school environments.
